5G chip heating and power consumption test: Huawei, Qualcomm and MediaTek, who is outstanding

With the vast majority of smartphones released in 2020 using 5G, smartphones have fully entered the 5G era. When purchasing a 5G mobile phone, the ultra-fast network speed is enough to excite people. Especially when the 5G chips have super performance, it is very important whether the power consumption of the mobile phone will affect the user experience.

Therefore, we have selected several representative 5G mobile phones today, which are equipped with four different 5G processors such as Kirin 990, Dimensity 1000 series, Snapdragon 855 Plus and Snapdragon 730G for testing. The battery capacity of the mobile phone is 4200mAh, 4025mAh, 4000mAh and 4500mAh respectively. Let’s see how the battery life of mobile phones equipped with different 5G chips will be different.

The first test is how much power the mobile phone consumes in daily life, so the content of our test mainly includes watching dramas, swiping Douyin, browsing Weibo and headlines, and we set the time to 30 minutes for each application. From the actual experience, these four mobile phones have good performance, especially when sliding Weibo and Douyin up and down, it is very smooth, showing the advantages of high-performance processors. Of course, as 5G mobile phones, their biggest advantage is that even when watching 1080P video, there is almost no lag when switching back and forth, and the actual experience is perfect.

However, in terms of battery life, this experience is not completely similar. After 2 hours of continuous testing, the four mobile phones consumed 20%, 16%, 17%, and 22% of the power respectively. When it comes to battery capacity, they are 840mAh, 644mAh, 680mAh, and 990mAh respectively. Therefore, in the two-hour battery life experience, the Dimensity 1000 series (OPPO Reno3) and the Snapdragon 855 Plus (Xiaomi 9 Pro 5G) have better battery life, while the Kirin 990 (Huawei nova6 5G) and the Snapdragon 730G (Redmi) have better battery life. K30) with higher power consumption.

Not only the daily power consumption, but also due to the excellent performance of the processor, these three mobile phones will inevitably be used to play games. To this end, we have also added an hour of game testing on the original basis. The tested applications are respectively It’s half an hour of “Glory of the King” and “Peace Elite”.

From the final result, the power consumption of the game test is undoubtedly higher. In just one hour, the power consumption of the mobile phone reaches 23%, 17%, 24% and 22% respectively, that is, the day with the integrated baseband design. The Ji 1000 series performed the best, followed by the Snapdragon 730G. As for the use of the Snapdragon 855 and the external 5G baseband, there is indeed a serious power consumption problem. .

In addition, we also tested the fever of the four mobile phones after use. From the performance point of view, after 3 hours of testing, the Dimensity 1000 series showed obvious advantages, the temperature was only 39.1 ° C, while the Snapdragon 855+ The Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro performed the worst, perhaps because of its use of an external baseband, and the temperature was as high as 45.9 °C. As for the other two mobile phones, they have temperatures of 41.7°C and 42.4°C respectively, which are quite satisfactory.

In the end, the three-hour power consumption test results of the four mobile phones were also officially released. Although the Snapdragon 855+ with an external baseband design is quite satisfactory in daily use, the heat is a bit serious during the gaming experience, and the Snapdragon 765G may be in the The power optimization has not been done in place, and there is also the problem of excessive power consumption. As for the Kirin 990 that uses an external baseband. Nor can it be compared with the Kirin 990 5G with an integrated 5G baseband design.

As for the Dimensity 1000 series, it performed very well in terms of daily use, game performance and temperature, and finally became the “king of battery life” in this test. It can be said that with the optimization of MediaTek and the inherent advantages of integrated baseband design, the Dimensity 1000 series has long been no longer known as the inherent impression of “low performance and power consumption”, and consumers will not buy 5G mobile phones equipped with MediaTek chips in the future. There will be no more worries. This progress is undoubtedly very worthy of our recognition.
