Almighty companies like Samsung and Intel that can both design chips and process wafers are already a handful in the semiconductor industry today. More companies only do chip design and leave complex foundries to professional factories, such as TSMC and Grid. companies like SMIC and SMIC.
Statistics agency IC Insights predicted in a recently updated report that total fab sales this year will reach $67.7 billion.
By region, the U.S. market absorbed about 52%, followed by the Chinese market with 22%. 3 to 5 are Asia-Pacific, Europe and Japan.
Compared with 10 years ago, China’s market share has more than tripled, while the United States has declined.
Among them, TSMC is expected to contribute more than 9 billion US dollars, accounting for 61% of the sales manufacturers for the Chinese market. SMIC is about 2.45 billion US dollars, accounting for 16%. 3 to 5 are Hua Hong, UMC and GF.
It can be seen that the contribution of the Chinese market to TSMC wafer revenue is expected to be only 21%. For SMIC and Hua Hong, they reached 66% and 65% respectively. Compared with 2018 and 2019, the proportion of TSMC increased steadily, while SMIC and Hua Hong were basically stable.
Undoubtedly, Huawei HiSilicon has played an extremely important role in promoting it, but in the future, there will be new and huge variables in all this.
