Beijing, China, May 27, 2021 – Keysight Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: KEYS) announced that the company will host its first-ever SONiC open source network operating system community Plugfest testing event between May and June 2021. Plugfest will empower Open Network Software in the Cloud (SONiC), community members are not limited by manufacturers, and more comprehensively implement SONiC verification. Keysight Technologies provides advanced design and verification solutions designed to accelerate innovation and create a secure, connected world.
SONiC is an open-source Linux-based network operating system that runs on switches and application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) from multiple vendors. SONiC gives users the flexibility to create network solutions while testing them with the collective power of a large ecosystem and community. The decentralized architecture (separate switch chips, white box switches, and network operating system software) in the open source community is the foundation upon which SONiC is built.
Alan Weckel, principal analyst and co-founder of 650 Group, said: “In 2020, due to the impact of the new crown epidemic, travel and face-to-face communication has been greatly reduced. Even so, SONiC is still showing rapid popularity and growth momentum. SONiC has complex functional characteristics , and continues to be enhanced for data center deployments beyond hyperscale. By participating in community testing events such as this, the community will have the opportunity to judge the merits of SONiC’s various parts under the same conditions.”
The Open Community Beta campaign attracted the participation of three parties:
Client: Client Advisory Board (CAB)
Vendors: Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs), Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and Network Equipment Manufacturers (NEMs)
Test Partners: Keysight and Aviz Networks
The Plugfest CAB will determine the maturity of SONiC on different hardware platforms from a user perspective. This group includes CTC, Line, Yahoo Japan, Worldwide Technology, Meituan, Apresia Systems, Tencent, DMM.com, Zhijiang Labs, Ukeda, Internet Initiative Japan, Macnica and others.
Shawn Zandi, Head of Network Engineering at LinkedIn, said: “As an early adopter of SONiC, we are excited to see the community contributing to SONiC’s success. This Plugfest event provided a great opportunity for us to validate SONiC’s readiness degree and understand how other enterprises plan to use SONiC in their environments.”
“Plugfest provides a platform for vendors and end users to demonstrate SONiC’s maturity through a public testing framework,” said Dean Lee, senior director of cloud solutions at Keysight Technologies. “While community testing has been conducted before, this is a For the first time, the working group had the opportunity to understand the maturity of SONiC system integration at each level from the end user’s perspective.”
Lihua Yuan, Partner Development Manager at Microsoft, said: “The SONiC community welcomes more attention to and efforts to drive testing. While SONiC already has broad industry support, this event will provide a unique opportunity for the end-user community. — Testing key elements of SONiC under different conditions including multi-vendor.”
The virtual Plugfest event will implement three types of tests to verify the maturity of system integration at different levels: the basic test suite to verify the key functional features announced by the SONiC community; the scale test suite to characterize the scale and capacity of the control plane and data plane; the operation Test suites are used to test performance, failover/failback, and deployments in Leaf/Spine topologies. Plugfest test results will be announced after the event.
“Keysight and Aviz Networks are working together to accelerate adoption of the SONiC open network,” said Karam Gerges, vice president, Aviz Networks. “We look forward to working with the community at this Plugfest to test SONiC’s performance and performance across different customer use cases. scale.”
Keysight and Aviz Networks will provide a public testbed for Plugfest. The platform includes a data center architecture test environment that can limit the performance and scale of SONiC. This test environment can be scaled in multiple dimensions, such as the number of hosts/servers, TOR switches, Leaf switches, and spine switches, to simulate a hyperscale data center environment.
